They meant forest as an important resource for providing food, firewood, shelter, medicines,etc.

They wanted forests to be protected.


British


They meant forest as an important resource for providing wood to construct railway lines.

They categorised them into three categories namely

Village forests.

Reserved forest

Protected forest


They exported woods from hundreds of trees in India.
