The narrator meets the brothers on the outskirts of Verona in Italy. They stopped the vehicle of the narrator in order to sell their fruits. Later he saw the shining the shoes, selling newspaper, organizing local tours and running errands. He was surprised at their hardworking nature and really could not guess the reason behind their restless work. The author thought that the brothers might be saving money to immigrate to America. However, the brothers were not willing to share any of their personal problems for some unknown reasons. When the writer asked them if he could be of any help to the brothers, the younger one, Jacopo asked him if they could go in their car up to Poleta which was 30 K.M from there.On reaching Poleta, the author sensed the mystery behind their hardwork; the brothers were working hard to pay the heavy medical bills of their only sister who was admitted in a private nursing home. The nurse in the hospital related the entire story about their family. Their father, a well known singer, had been killed in the war with the Germans and later their sister, Lucia was afflicted with TB.Their selfless service and their devotion and moral duty to their sister impressed him a lot. The narrator named them “Two Gentlemen of Verona” The responsibility they shouldered regard with their ailing sister.

The war destroy their house and their family. In the war their father got died and after the war their was noone to help them or to care them they earn themselves and give her sisiter the best treatment.
