In Punjab, the khokhar tribe was very influential during the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries.
The Gakkhars became more significant and that too to the extent that Kamal Khan Gakkhar was made a
mansabdar by Mughal Emperor Akbar. In Multan and Sind, the Langahs, Arghuns and Balochis were
powerful tribes during the Mughal period. In the Himalayas, the Shepherd tribe of Gaddis lived. In the
North Eastern part of India, the Nagas and the Ahoms were very significant. The Gonds were the most
important tribal groups in central India area covering Jabalpur and Bhopal.
