Answer:

• The sense of collective belonging among the Indians came from the united struggle of the people against the britishers.

• The other cultural processes also helped in building a sense of collective belonging:-

(a) Image of Bharat Mata-

The image of Bharat Mata was first created by Bankim chandra and later by Abanindranath Tagore. These images helped in creating a sense in which people can identify the nation.

(b) Novels-

Many writers wrote patriotic novels which also helped in creating a sense of collective belonging. For example- Anandmath.

(c)Folklores and folktales-

Nationalist leaders believed that true traditional culture was preserve in folklores and folktales, so they made every efforts to collect folk songs. In Bengal, Rabindranath Tagore himself began collecting folktales.

(d) Use of icons and symbols-

During the Swadeshi movement, a tricolour flag(green, red and yellow) was designed depicting signs and symbols used by both hindus and muslims. Gandhiji designed a swaraj flag, it was again tricolour(red, green and white) and had a spinning wheel symbolising the idea of self help.

(e) Reinterpretation of history-

British colonizers portrayed Indians as backward and primitive. Nationalists through the reinterpretation of history tried to develop a sense of pride in the nation. They wrote about the achievement made by Indians in the field of Art, science, mathematics, etc and urged Indians to take pride in the India's great glory.
