Miss Virginia Otis was different from the rest of the family, primarily because she pitied the Ghost. Nowhere in the story do we find an instance when Virginia tried hurt the Ghost. Unlike the Otis twins she never tried to hurt the Ghost. She was even different from Washington, who had helped the twins make the false scepter. It was Virginia's gentle nature and her pure soul that helped the Ghost achieve redemption. Virginia, in spite of the warnings, entered the hidden chamber behind the tapestry room. She then prayed for Sir Simon's soul. It was her ardent prayers that made the Angel of Death take pity on Sir Simon's soul. The Ghost finally found freedom and was able to rest. Had it not been for Miss Virginia's bravery and honesty, the Ghost's suffering would have perpetuated. Thus, through her behavior and her actions, Miss Virginia Otis set an example for rest of the family members.
