That is called as rationalization.

(1)

 \sqrt{2} x + 3 = 0 <br /><br />[tex] \sqrt{2} x = -3

x =  \frac{-3}{ \sqrt{2} }

x = - \frac{3}{ \sqrt{2} } *   \frac{ \sqrt{2} }{\sqrt{2}}

x =  - \frac{3 \sqrt{2} }{ \sqrt{2} *  \sqrt{2} }

x = - \frac{ 3\sqrt{2} }{2}

(2)

2 \sqrt{2}x - 1 = 0

2 \sqrt{2} x = 1

x =  \frac{1}{2 \sqrt{2} }

x =  \frac{1}{2 \sqrt{2} } *  \frac{2 \sqrt{2} }{2 \sqrt{2} }

x =  \frac{2 \sqrt{2} }{2 * 4}

x =  \frac{2 \sqrt{2} }{8}

x =  \frac{ \sqrt{2} }{4}

Hope this helps!

siddhartharao77: Which one?
siddhartharao77: Here in both questions we had done rationalization
siddhartharao77: We can also do without rationalization. But rationalization makes simplification easier
siddhartharao77: Most of the times
siddhartharao77: Ohhkk..
