How did Wegener explain why fossils of land animals were found on continents that are across oceans from one another? Animals evolved separately on each continent. Land bridges existed between the continents. Animals swam across the ocean to new continents. Continents were once one landmass and have drifted apart.

The answer is Land bridges existed between the continents. Alfred Wegener originated the continental drift theory. According to his theory, the world was a single compressed protocontinent initially and later drifted away to different continents as it is today. He called this protocontinent as Pangaea, which means all lands. To support his theory, he put forward another paper saying that a land bridge once existed between Brazil and Africa and so there are similar fossilised plants and animals in the two countries.
