I burnt the crackers,

And set the sparklers alight.

The exploding bombs rent the air,

Breaking the silence of the beautiful night.

I shrugged my shoulders and I did not care,

For I danced all night and partied all night,

I celebrated Diwali all night.

 
How did you celebrate Diwali my friend?

I lit the lamps and my hatred too,                                                

I raged and shouted with my anger anew,

With the serial bombs of my revenge the world I blew,

The explosions, the crying and shrieking of human kind,

The darkness of eyes becoming blind,

The blood and the gore and the putrid stink,

Encompassing my scent of revenge.

The shrieks of humans and the scattered limbs,

Filled my heart with joy of a special kind.

This is how I celebrated my friend,

I celebrated Diwali with revenge my friend.

I worshipped Goddess Laxmi,

And was weighed in gold,

From head to toe I was decked in gold.

I took all bribes and gifts offered to a Neta, in cash,

I took all bribes in diamonds and land.

I laughed with delight at my coffers so full,

My heart burst with joy at my wealth in hand.

The greed and the lust for the gold I behold,

Dancing with greed and lust to fill my soul,

This is how I celebrated Diwali my friend.

As a common man, the humble man,

I prayed to God for the light to shine,

I celebrated Diwali, the festival of light,

With offerings to God, with the family of mine,

Wishing for  love and peace for all mankind.

God’s gift to me was the light of love and peace,

A gift so luminous, filling my world with delight,

This gift of light became my personal guide,

This is how I celebrated Diwali my friend.
