Indirect/Reported speech is speech being said to a third person/reporting what happened to a third person.
For example: He said,"I am going out tonight." (Direct)
He said that he was going out that night. (Indirect/Reported)
In the above example, when writing in indirect/reported form, the sentence changes according to its tense form. Also, modifications regarding certain words like 'tomorrow' changes to 'the next day', 'tonight' changes to 'that night', 'this' changes to 'that', 'you' changes to 'I' and many other words will have to be made.
The teacher said to Rubu,"How did you prepare for you examination?" (Direct)
The teacher asked Rubu how she prepared for her examination. (Indirect)
Hope it helps :)
