Different social groups conceived Non-cooperation differently:

 1. Middle Class in Cities: Students and teachers left governmentrun schools and colleges. Lawyers resigned and elections were boycotted. Foreign clothes were burned and Indian textiles were bought.

2. Peasants in Awadh: The peasants protested against the very high rents they had to pay and the demand of begar by landlords, Oppressive taluqdars and landlords were socially boycotted,

3. Tribal peasants of Andhra Pradesh: Led by Alluri Sitaram Raju. the peasants did guerrilla warfare against the colonial government for forest resources. They revered Gandhi but didn't believe in non-violence.

4. Plantation workers in Assam: The movement meant a struggle for free movement for these labourers. They weren't allowed to move in or out without permits that were hardly given.

 5. Different groups associated the movement with various ideas depending on how the British had oppressed them. The one thing common was the struggle against the British government.
