The aluminum is produced extracting it from the aluminum oxide (Al2O3), called also alumina, through anelectrolysis process driven by electrical current. The process uses as electrolyte a molten salts called Cryolite (Na3AlF6) capable of dissolve the alumina.

The electrolysis of alumina is carried out in as steel tank lined with graphite.
Cathode is graphite
Anode is also graphite rods hangihin molten mass.
Electrolyte used is- Cryolite and Flurosar(CaF2).
Cryolite lowers the melting point and flurospar increases the conductivity and fluidity.
When the electricity is passed ,the aluminium is obtained at cathode in molten state.
and carbon dioxide is released at anode.
Reaction at cathode:4Al+3 + 12e- → 4Al
hope that helps. Have a nice day, human.
