Disease duration can be one of the following: An acute disease is a short-lived disease, like the common cold. A chronic disease is one that lasts for a long time, usually at least six months. During that time, it may be constantly present, or it may go into remission and periodically relapse.

There are two kinds of disease on the basis of duration :-
⇒ Acute disease.
⇒ Chronic disease.
1. Acute diseases symptoms lasts for a short time whereas chronic diseases persist for long period.
2. Acute diseases generally occurs suddenly or by any injury whereas Chronic develops very slowly.
3. The patient suffering from an acute disease can recover by the treatment fast but patient suffering from chronic disease do not recover completely and if there's recovery.. It is slow.
Examples of acute diseases : Influenza and common cold etc.
Examples of chronic disease : HIV, AIDS etc.
