when acid react with metal to form salt and water..
eg): metal+acid------>salt+water
cup+2HCL---->cucl2+H2o
when strong bases reacts with active metals to produce hydrogen gas.thus these bases should not kept in metal containers (active metals)..
eg): Metal+base-----> salt + hydrogen gas
