An aerosol is a colloid in which a solid or liquid is dispersed in a gas (including air). Smoke and fog both are aerosols but their dispersed phase is different. The dispersed phase in fog is liquid (water droplets) whereas the dispersed phase in smoke is solid (particulate matter).
