How do airbags make use of principles of second law of motion

Thank you for asking this question. Firstly i'll state the second law of motion, when a force acts on a body it produces an acceleration on the body that is in the direction of the net force acting on it", now i'll explain how airbags use this principle.
In an event of a crash the car stops abruptly but due to the inertia the passengers are flung forward from their seats. airbags serve as a mechanism to oppose the force that is caused by the inertia, the force due to inertia produces the motion towards the windshield whereas the airbags oppose that force. The acceleration due to this is reduced thus ensuring the safety of the passenger.
