How do amendments in name of society's changing perception?

wel the 13th amendment representeda a change in the way society viewed blacks. African slaves were never though of as people so therefore were granted no protection under the U.S. constitution. the 13th amendment effectively changed that and recognized blacks as people too, and therefore were also worthy of equal protection under the law
