SOUNDS PRODUCED BY ANIMALS

Our earth has an amazingly large variety of birds and animals living on it. There are endless varieties of sound produced by them. Different types of birds and animals also have different mechanism, and setups, in their bodies for producing the characteristics sound. We now look at some of these mechanism.

1.) Like human beings, there are quite a few animals that produce sound by means of vocal cords. When dogs bark, cat music and horses neigh, lions roar or cows moo, they are all using their vocal cords.

2.) Birds have a ring of cartilage, called SYRINX , in their wind pipe. They use it instead of vocal chords in their voice box to produce their characteristics sound. This characteristics of sound is a jarring , aur unpleasant one in the case of birds like the crow, but it is a pleasant and smoothing one in the case of bird like like the Koel , parrot and mynah.

3.) Insects , like mosquitoes and bees make their characteristics sound by vibrating their wings rapidly. The more rapid the vibration of their wings, the higher is the pitch of the sounds produced by them.

4.) Frogs , while crossing are known to puff their vocal sacs , up their throat like a balloon. Additional inflation of their throat helps them to make their croaking louder.

This is how the sound produced by the animals.
