Anticholinergics block the action of acetylcholine which is a neurotransmitter that sends messages to the brain and from nerves to muscles. The exact mechanism of how this works is still unknown. However there are theories say that the disease is a result of reduced intranigral dopamine concentrations. Therefore anticholinergics correct this imbalance by reducing the degree of neurotransmissions mediated by acetylcholine.
