Ants have a far greater smell sense than Humans. Thus, ants are  able to identify the sweets kept in a tin.they identify the Sweets by their smell.

Ants are very fond of sweets, and have a keen sense of smell of honeydew and sugar.( antennae are special organs of smell, touch, taste, and hearing for the ants). Sweets supply energy for various activities of ants
