Hi mate
Question
How do aquatic plants and animals get carbon dioxide and oxygen for their survival in water?
Answer
- Gaseous oxygen, normally configured as O2, is soluable in water.
- So is Carbon Dioxide, CO2. Underwater plants take in dissolved CO2 from the water and release O2 into the water.
- Fish take in dissolved O2 through their gills and release CO2 through their gills.
- There is also a lot of exchange of O2 and CO2 at the waters surface that is exposed to the atmosphere.
- 3/5ths of the worlds oxygen production is done in the earths oceans by algae.
