When any organic material such as leaves, dead animals rot or decompose or when calcium carbonate rocks undergoes weathering, release of carbon dioxide occur in the ocean. This carbon dioxide is taken up by the aquatic plants. Carbon dioxide released from the burning of fuels and the one released during respiration of living beings is taken up by the terrestrial plants
