Atoms attain noble gas configuration by gaining or losing electrons in order to satisfy the role of an octet.

atoms attain noble gas configuration by combining with other atoms to complete their octed i . e 8 electrons in outer most shell and duplet i. e 2 electrons in outer most valence shell. So they loose or gain electrons to complete their octed
ex H + H = H2
Na + Cl = NaCl
