Only some bacteria reproduce by a very primitive form of sexual reproduction. One bacteria has a tube-like extension in its cell membrane. The tube like extension is inserted into the cell membrane of the recipient cell. The donor cell transfers its plasmids to the recipient's cell through the tube, thus sexual reproduction takes place.
