how do baking soda help to make cakes and bread soft and spongy

When baking soda is heated during cooking it decomposes and forms carbon dioxide which helps to make breads or cakes spongy.

bcoz they contain yeast which produces and reproduces rapidly, release carbon dioxide and make them floffy ,spongy
