hey mate

here's ur answer. ..

In periodic table, as we go from left to right the metallic properties goes on decreasing

and from right to left they goes on increasing. ...

From Top to bottom metallic properties goes on increasing! !

Let us see : The change the metallic properties in the periods and groups

Explanation:

Metallic character

It refers to tendency of an atom to loose electron .

For example : sodium -1 electron ---> sodium ion

Now , how easily the metals can loose electron will give its metallic nature .

Metallic nature depends upon :

  • Ionisation energy of an atom : More is the ionisation energy , less is the metallic character .
  • Size of an atom : Bigger is the size , more is the metallic character .
  • Nuclear charge on atom : More is the nuclear charge , lesser is the metallic character .
  • Electronic configuration of an atom : More stable is the E.C ,lesser is the metallic character .Like all half filled or fully filled orbitals are most stable

Variation in group

In groups as we move down , the number of shells goes on increasing , size increases , nuclear charge decreases .Hence , the metallic character increases .

Variation in periods

As we  move in period , the size decreases , the nuclear charge increases therefore metallic character decreases
