chemical fertilisers contain toxic chemicals. when these are put in the soil. they do provide nutrients to the crops but harm the soil and kill the natural nutrients. if the field gets flooded, the excess  water with the fertiliser pollutes the water bodies, killing the marine animals. The water thus becomes unfit for drinking or any other similar purpose.
