There are three varieties of coal :
1. Anthracite : best variety of coal and contains 94%-98% carbon and produces no smoke on combustion.
2. Bituminous : second grade coal and produces moderate amounts of smoke on combustion.
3. Lignite : it is the poorest quality of coal and produces huge amounts of smoke on combustion.
