Concrete surfaces prevent the rainwater from seeping into the ground. Thus it prevents groundwater from being replenished.

Here are the effects of concrete surfaces on availability of ground water:-

(i) The concrete surfaces are non-porous.

(ii) This means that the concrete surfaces do not allow water to pass through it .

(iii) Thus the water is not stored as groundwater .

(iv) On the other hand groundwater is continuously used up by us.

(v) This leads to a decrease in the availability of the groundwater .

(vi) However water is stored in the concrete surfaces and can be utilized for our benefit .
