cramps occur in human body due to the accumulation of lactic acid in the muscle cells.

when muscle cells undergo anaerobic respiration (respiration in the absence of oxygen), the end products are lactic acid and carbon di oxide). this lactic acid gets accumulated and causes cramps.

glucose→ pyruvate→(in the absence of oxygen)  lactic acid + carbondioxide
