Construction of dams results in land degradation in the following ways:

1. Land’s vegetation is degraded:

  • Dam construction destroys vegetation cover of the land in which it is constructed. Before construction, huge vegetation must be evacuated as it hinders the construction process. Due to this lots of animal’s losses its shelters.

2. Loosens the soil structure:

  • In order to place huge pillars the land is digged with huge machineries which in turn affects the rigidity of the land due to the loosening of the soil.

3. Loss of nutrient and natural ability:

  • As the land is placed into many chemical treatment such as cements, gravels, etc the soil losses it natural properties and in turn makes the land infertile.
