They photosynthesise. But they do use a strategy that helps them conserve water. They open their pores(stomata) at night when it’s cooler to take in carbon dioxide. The latter is stored as an acid and then during daylight hours when sunlight is available the stored carbon can be released to produce glucose.

They use sunlight to convert H2O and CO2 into sugar.
Their stomata open at night time.
Water requirements is less.
