IR wireless is the use of wireless technology in devices or systems that convey data through infrared (IR) radiation. Infrared is electromagnetic energy at a wavelength or wavelengths somewhat longer than those of red light. ... IR wireless is used for short- and medium-range communications andcontrol.

Using a single IR LED, a resistor and the internal 1.27 V reference, controlled by optimized software inside the Sensor Controller engine, both transmitter and receiver functions for IrDA PHY @ 9600 bps are implemented in the TIDA-01212 reference design. This approach can be used with the TI CC13xx or CC26xx SimpleLink™ Wireless MCUs or any MSP43x MCUs to reduce cost by replacing legacy optical IrDA PHY modules with two separate LEDs, which are used in virtually all (sub-)metering applications.
