how do dogs get to know that another dog has come into their area

A dog's sense of smell is 100 times stronger than a human's. By smelling the secretions from the anal gland, a dog can tell the other dog's age, health, state of sexual receptivity, even what they've been eating lately. There is a lot of info for them in that sniffing.
