how do elements get their symbols


Divyaranjan: Actually elements are given their specific symbols by the IUPAC (International union of pure and applied chemistry).

The Latin names of these elements are commemorated in their atomicsymbols, Au (aurum) for gold and Fe (ferrum) for iron.

For classification of wide range elements we use symbols and if we don't have standardsymbols we can't write whole reaction hydrogen +oxygen gives rise to water by using symbols it easy to represent chemical reaction
