1. how do fish breathe?

ans. Fish breathe with their gills, and they need a constant supply of oxygen. Gills sit under the operculum. This is called the gill slit.

2. why do fish breathe?

ans. Instead of breathing air, fish must get their oxygen from the water. This process requires large volumes of water to pass through absorption surfaces to get enough oxygen into their bodies using their mouths and gills. These body parts work like a pump to keep water moving over the gas absorption surfaces of the gills.

Answer:

How do fish breathe?

ANS - Gills are the respiratory organs of a fish. There are two gills, one on either side  of the head. Gills are projections of the skin which are well supplied with blood vessels for exchange of gases.

In some fishes, each gill is covered with a flap which opens and closes alternately. Their opening and closing is related to the opening and closing of their mouth.

When the mouth of fish opens, it engulfs water which is passed over to the gill. During this, exchange of gases takes place but the gill remains closed. After the exchange of gases, the gill flap opens and water is pushed out.

Why do fish breathe?

ANS - Fish, jut like other living organisms, need air to survive. Oxygen is needed to burn the food to produce energy. Air is also needed to sustain cells.

Hope it helps
