The vast no. of trees in a forest lose water through transpiration and this water vapour contributes to a significant part of the the clouds which then condense and precipitate and again this precipitation in form of rain seeps down into earth which the trees observe and lose through transpiration and this cycle goes on and on and thus forests play a significant role in maintaining the water cycle.

Hope it helps  !
