How do forests help in maintaining the level of ground water table?

as we all know trees are known as best friend of environment......So forest or u can say trees through precipitatation release water in atmosphere which then falls back on earth as rain and helps to maintain water table................
trees roots also holds the soil so that water underground does not seeps away.........
