Forest prevent soil erosion.
*it breaks the force of wind
It reduces the force with which rain water comes.
The good layer of humus like dried leaves can slow down the flow of water.
The trees also absorb some water.

The roots plant has a grip over soil i.e., the roots bound the soil and during rainfall the soil does not get washed away due to this grip and prevents soil erosion.
