Humans depended on the gods for basic everyday tasks. For instance, some would pray to Poseidon, the god of the sea, for safe travels on the waters. Humans would also give sacrifices and make monuments in their honor. The interaction between gods and mortals did not only happen within temples.

You can never do things alone. From the beginning of birth, you always depend on someone to guide you through life. Whether it be learning to walk or tying your shoes, someone will be there to lend a hand. You needed interaction with someone to be able to learn something new. Living and learning on your own is almost impossible if you have no knowledge of your own. Mankind depended on the gods since the beginning of time. After all, the gods created humans in their image. Humans needed the push to start civilization because they were practically newborns. The interaction between the Greek gods and mankind were what helped develop the society that progressed into what the world is today.
