how do guard cells regulate the opening and closing of stomata ?

1)the leaves having the tiny holes is called stomata
2) the rate of photosynthesis depends upon the no of stomata and opening and closing of the stomata
3) stomata open and close to regulate the exchange of gases
4)the tiny hole are surrounded by kidney shaped cells called guard cells

The opening and closing of the pore is a function of the guard cells. The guard cells swell when water flows into them, causing the stomatal pore to open. Simillarly the pore closes if the guard cells shrink
