Human Environment Interaction
Haiti's environment has made a huge impact on the people that live there. The land is 80% mountains so people have to use any possible land for living and working. Many people farm things like cacao, beans, corn, rice, yams, sugarcane, and coffee beans for a living. They eat the beans, rice, yams, and corn; along with any animals such as chickens or pigs they might raise. However, many people have less than two acres, which isn't even enough to feed their family. So, they over-cultivate and over-cultivation causes severe erosion of the soil, making it even harder for them to get enough food. Haiti also has many severe earthquakes throughout the year and destructive hurricanes in the summer and early fall. The people have to make their buildings extra strong and hardy so they don't get destroyed. The Haitian environment really affects how people live.
The people of Haiti have a impact on the environment as well. They have eroded the soil with over-farming and knocked down trees and cleared fields for farmland. There are many waterways in Haiti and people have built bridges to get over them. Haitians have built many harbors and cities as well. Haiti is a lot different now than it was before people began affecting it.
