Trasitive verbs are verbs followed by a direct object and intransitive verbs are verbs which cannot be followed by direct objects

Examples:

The baby cried - intransitive because cried camnot be followed by an object

The girl sang the lullaby for her sister - is transitive as it is is followed by a direct object
