how do i convince myself that some of the alpha particles went straight through the empty spaces in the gold foil even if there were many electrons present around the nucleus? i am confused because the speed of electron is really high and the orbits do not lie in the same plane as well.

It doesn't matters
Their is force of attraction between alpha particles and electrons as alpha is positively charged and electrons are negatively charged

IF CONVINCED THEN MARK AS BRAINLIEST

locomaniac: how they went straight then??

Hi Mahika

Here is your answer,

As alpha particles are positively charged they must be attracted towards the electrons. So, in general electrons are negatively charged. But as Rutherford proved that an atom 99.9% as emptyness. Hence, there is only a less percent chance that is 0.0001% chance of an alpha particles. To get attracted towards the electrons. Hence it always deflects away and went straight through the empty space in the gold foil.

Hope it helps you !
