Answer:

Algerbra is the use of variables and numbers. They also use PEMDAS (If you don't know what that is, search it on the web) and give you lots of options to do this. For me, I'm taking a test on this today, so I can very clearly give you some questions you may come across.

1. Translating an equation to a verbal expression.

Here are some examples: 2(4+y)

This can be represented as 2 times the sum of 4 plus y.

You can also say: the constant term 2 times the 2 term factor 4 and y.

To clarify, a term is seperated by an + or -. This means 4 is a term in the equation above, and the y is also a term.  A factor is the 2 numbers or more in a multiplication problem. Ex. 3 x 4. 3 is a factor.

2. Using Vocabulary.

Factor, Quotient, Constant, Coffiecent, all of these are Vocab for Algerbra. You can find more of them on the web.

3. Subsituting Variables.

3x. Let's subsitute the x. x = 1. Now, 3 times 1 is 3.

You can use this in harder equations too. Try finding some online. (Khan Academy, Math Antics, Brain Pop, Prodigy, etc.)

4. Using Properties and Subsitution to prove your equation is correct.

Associative Property - x + (v + z) = v + (x + z)

Communative Property - x + y = y + x

Identity Property - 0 + x = x.

Distributive Property - 3(6x + 4) = 18x + 12

I hope this helped you!
