Answer:

By spacing out do you mean you stay away from others? If yes then

  • stop looking at how others are having fun with each other. When you do so, it would hurt you and you'll not feel good.
  • focus on your studies, if bored/not studying then simply write something in a rough copy or draw. Basically do anything that draws your attention from other people.

Is there a specific reason for detaching yourself? If no then try to talk to others, don't be too shy or nervous, because a class has same-aged people and they too are going through something which you'll never know, and not all are bad. Talk to people who are non-judgmental and open-minded, or who are like-minded to you. Maybe you'll find somebody supportive, or just somebody who makes you feel better. Just if you're afraid of making friends then don't attach yourself to them, just talk to them when you feel like.

Hope my answer helps.
