How do I show that the equation of a straight line that intersects the x axis at a and intersects the y axis at b can be written in the form of x/a+y/b=1. Do I need to make up some numbers to prove this answer???

point on x axis is (a,0) and on y axis is ( 0,b)

equation of a line using 2 point form is (y-y₁)⁄(y₂−y₁) = (x−x₁)⁄(x₂−x₁)

(y-0)⁄(b-0) = (x-a)/(0-a)

y/b=(x-a)/-a

-ay=bx - ab

bx +ay = ab

bx/ab + ay/ab =ab/ab

x/a + y/b = 1
