★ You cannot break the habit of procrastination overnight , but by following some tips you can gradually overcome this problem. Some of the tips to avoid procrastination are :-

  • Self discipline is important. Character is built when you learn - that things need to be done, even if you don't feel like doing them. Overcome your moods.

  • Prioritise your goals and determine what needs to be done to achieve them.

  • Create a calendar or 'to do list' that identifies daily tasks, which needs to be done.

  • Break the task down into manageable 'can do' parts. Like cleaning up a room may include steps like picking up books, clothes, then dusting followed by sweeping.

  • Finish the uninteresting tasks first, so that you feel a sense of relief. Starting is the biggest hurdle.

  • Organise your surroundings, so that you are encouraged to take up the task and finish on time.

  • Identify the risk or loss associated with not doing the task on time and feel the pressure of its negative consequences.

  • Focus on one task at a time.

  • Set yourself time bound goals. Prepare action plans. That way you will have no time for procrastination.

  • Make up your own rewards. For example, promise yourself a fifteen minutes break, before starting a new task or treat yourself to a candy on completing a task successfully.
