Indicators change colour or smell when added with an acid or a base. The indicators which change colour when mixed with an acid or a base are known as visual indicators and the indicators which change smell when added to an acid or a base are known as olfactory indicators. Examples of natural indicators are : turmeric, china rose etc . Examples of synthetic indicators are ; Phenophtalein , methyl orange etc.
