interferons act as intercellular messengers as when the cell Which is attacked by a virus release interferons to alert the neighbouring cells about the virus and it triggers the synthesis of anti viral proteins in the self and as well as neighbouring cells.

The chemical and glycol proteins produced by the cell in response to viral infection which protect non-infected cells from further infection is called interferons.

it involves the synthesis of antiviral protein and many other mechanism to protect the unaffected cell from viral infection.
