How do ionic compounds conduct electricity only in molten state not in solid state?

because in molten state the e- are loosely packed. so they conduct electricity.

Hey !!

In the molten state, ionic solids ionise to give free ions and hence can conduct electricity. However, in the solid state, since the ions are free to move about but remain held together by strong electrostatic force of attraction, they behave as insulator.
